Leicester is made up of a whole host of big businesses who all make big contributions to the success of the city’s business community.
As well as these large-scale businesses who operate in the area, Leicester is also home to a variety of SMEs who also contribute to the city’s economy.
And at the upcoming LeicestershireLive Business Awards an SME who has excelled over the last 12 months will be celebrated.
Taking place on Thursday 23 April, the awards will see local businesses compete across 15 different categories one of which is the ‘SME Business of the Year’ award.
Awarded to a company with no more than 250 full-time employees, the winning business will have demonstrated how its offering has become integral to the local economy, continued to grow and developed opportunities for the region.
Each award has a category sponsor who is responsible for deciding on the three shortlisted finalists and winner.
Throwing their weight behind this award is leading solicitors’ firm, Smith Partnership. With offices in Leicester, as well as Derby and Burton, the firm are long term supporters of the awards.
Alison Neate is Head of Professional Liability and Managing Partner at the firm and explained why they decided to support this particular category.
“We are proud to sponsor the LeicestershireLive Business Awards and feel that sponsoring the ‘SME Business of the Year’ best reflects our commitment to the local area,” she said.
“We want to celebrate the efforts of the best of the region’s entrepreneurs. Those SME businesses which are the pulse of the local economy.”
Now nominations are closed, and judges are in the process of making their final decisions, Alison pointed out what they will be looking for as they begin their deliberations.
“We believe anybody nominated for this award will need to show commitment, drive, an entrepreneurial spark and unwavering determination to succeed,” she said.
“To succeed in business there are a number of qualities you need. A “never say die” attitude, a willingness to think differently and the ability to connect and make those connections count. The quote “If you think you’re too small to have an impact, try going to bed with a mosquito in the room” by Anita Roddick, founder of The Body Shop, is a great starter for ten when starting out in business.”
