This year’s annual celebration of business excellence and achievement in Leicester and Leicestershire through the LeicestershireLive Business Awards, has been postponed due to the effects of the coronavirus it has been confirmed.
The awards were due to be held for the third year in succession at the Maher Centre on Thursday 23 April but were put on a pause after we consulted with our fellow organisers, Champions (UK) plc, and considered government advice.
Together, we believe that, although current government restrictions may be lifted in time for the original planned date, in the interests of public health this would not be an appropriate time for a large gathering.
As much as everyone was looking forward to shining a spotlight on some of the many exciting business achievements in the county over the last 12 months, we believe instead that the Leicestershire community and businesses would be better served to focus on health, mitigation and recovery during this difficult period.
We can confirm, however, that the Maher Centre has kindly agreed to host the event on Thursday 8 October, a time we believe to be safer and more suitable for all concerned.
Each of the three finalists in all 15 award categories have been notified of both the postponement and of the event’s rescheduled date.
There are many great things about our local business community but perhaps the most important of all is its resilience. When the storm has passed, we are confident there will be even more to celebrate.
